A lot of symptoms of autism aren't really symptoms of autism, they're symptoms of how autistic people are regularly treated by those around them. Having a strong sense of justice isn't a sign of having a magical disabled brain, it's a sign of constantly being treated unfairly, never being able to contest it, and being gaslit into thinking that's normal. On the same token you could say that black people have a strong sense of justice, does that mean their brains are fundamentally different as well?

I don’t think there is a way to tell whether it is a consequence of having different brains or treatment, at least not without a better understanding of how autism works than we currently have*. Black people and autistic people are both marginalized groups but unlike Black people, autistic people DO have brains that are different than others. Whether its the marginalization or the brain difference isn’t possible to tell.

*there might actually be research out there that sheds light on this better. I have no idea. by “we” I mean the two of us who are involved in this conversation
